Swiss firm plans return of passenger flights at Coventry Airport

The chief executive of Switzerland-based business support firm ADP has outlined his company’s plans for Coventry Airport if it takes over the site. It was announced last week that ADP has requested 30 days to look through the airport’s books.

ADP’s CEO Thomas Frankl said that Coventry Airport has ‘nice facilities’ and a ‘great workforce potential’. He said the firm would look at expanding the existing cargo business, becoming a centre of excellence for aircraft repairs and running some passenger flights. He also hopes to attract the owners of private jets to base their aircraft there.

“The airport has got a very good infrastructure here already, which is quite unusual for a small regional airport. Once the economy is better we would be looking at some specialist passenger traffic routes such as ski flights.”

The Swiss firm, which normally operates car parks and logistic centres, has been chosen by Coventry City Council as its preferred partner to run the site, in what would be its first airport project.
