A table tennis table has been installed at London Heathrow’s Terminal 3 as part of a scheme across the capital to promote British sport. For the next month passengers will be able to enjoy a game of table tennis in the terminal’s departure lounge.
The table will be marked ‘Stop and Play’ and bats and balls will be on hand for passengers to join in the fun.
One hundred tables have been installed in locations across London, including the London Eye, Tate Britain and the British Library, with the aim of encouraging more people to take up sport ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
Heathrow’s Malcolm Robertson said, “Table tennis may have started in the UK, but its popularity around the world makes it the ideal pastime to bring together passengers from all nationalities at Heathrow.’
Once the four-week period is up, the table will be donated to a local organisation nominated by airport staff.
