Edinburgh Airport plans 100 new retail jobs

Edinburgh Airport has announced that its continued growth is expected to bring around 100 new retail jobs to the facility during 2017.

With the redevelopment of the airside retail space, and the opening of 20 new outlets so far, the airport believes that the increased interest will bring with it added opportunities.

The new retailers, which represent a 21% expansion of the airport’s retail and catering space, include JD Sport, Michael Kors, Next, FatFace and The Watch Collection. High-street names sit alongside designer brands, with new Scottish souvenir shops such as Tartan & Tweed and Tartan Weaving Mill. Any existing outlets have been given a makeover, and there are new food and beverage outlets, including Krispy Kreme and All Bar One.

Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said, “2016 has been an incredible year for Edinburgh Airport and the expansion of the retail side of the business is a key part of our success. Edinburgh Airport’s growth in the non-aero market allows us to be competitive and attract more new airlines and more new routes in and out of Scotland’s capital.

“This strategy has not only seen passenger numbers grow to record levels – we are on course for 12 million this year – it benefits airlines too. It is good for us, good for our customers and ultimately, with the creation of more jobs and enhanced connectivity from the nation’s capital city, good for Scotland.”
