Sydney Airport buys 40 more BYD electric buses

Sydney Airport is to continue its commitment to sustainable transport with the ordering of 40 more electric buses from Chinese manufacturer BYD.

Carbridge, the on-site provider of the airport’s ground transportation services, finalized the contract in late January just three months after its first fleet of BYD Electric Blu buses were put into action at Sydney, Australia. This means 20% of the 200 transfer vehicles are now electric.

Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD’s Asia-Pacific auto sales division, said, “We are the first Chinese company to crack Australia’s electric bus market, having come a long way since the trial of our electric buses at the country’s busiest airport in Sydney in late 2014.

“This additional order from a large transport provider like Carbridge is testimony to our quality service and state-of-the-art technology, and was a very nice present just before the Lunar New Year.”

The BYD Electric Blu bus can carry 70 passengers, features luggage storage racks and has a range of 249 miles on a single charge.
