Leighton Asia contracted to deliver foundation works for Hong Kong International Airport’s T2

Engineering firm Leighton Asia, a subsidiary of CIMIC Group, has been selected by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) to undertake the Terminal 2 (T2) foundation and substructure works at Hong Kong International Airport in China.

Leighton Asia will work with its joint venture partner Chun Wo Construction and Engineering to deliver the A$390m (US$297m) project. Leighton Asia holds a 70% share in the joint venture partnership. Construction is scheduled to commence shortly with completion scheduled for December 2021.

Leighton Asia will deliver the foundations for the modified T2, two annex buildings and associated viaducts, as well as constructing the T2 basement, south annex building structures, diaphragm walls and utility services.

Adolfo Valderas, CEO of CIMIC Group, said, “We are pleased to play a greater role in the development of one of the world’s fastest growing airports, following our selection this year to deliver the A$278 million Terminal 1 expansion for the Airport Authority Hong Kong.

“CIMIC and Leighton Asia’s engineering capabilities, and track record of successfully providing certainty for clients within complex aviation works programs, position us strongly for projects such as those at Hong Kong International Airport.”

Juan Santamaria, managing director, CPB Contractors and Leighton Asia, said, “This award is a continuation of our strong working relationship with the Airport Authority Hong Kong, to deliver world-class assets of long-term value.

“Our team is committed to utilizing innovative and cost-effective construction solutions to achieve the project’s planned operational, economic and social benefits.”
