Thousands of exhibitors, visitors and conference delegates amassed today (25 March 2014) in Barcelona, Spain, for the start of what looks to be the best Passenger Terminal Expo and Conference yet.
Visitors to the event, which is being held until Thursday 27 March, were greeted by more than 160 exhibitors from all over the world, who were showcasing the very latest innovations for the passenger terminal industry, including baggage handling, security, passenger check-in and seating solutions. This year many companies have used the exhibition as a platform to launch their latest products, services and technologies.
Dan Grant, director of first time exhibitor Secret Specialist, which today launched Admotum, a media maximising solution for materials handling systems, said, “Passenger Terminal Expo is fantastic. All the big decision makers are here, everyone who has any sort of interest in this environment is here, and they are all together under one roof to talk business. It’s the perfect platform for us and we haven’t stopped all morning, it’s been great! It is everything we hoped it would be.”
Visitor Khalid Elmhrausen, key advisor to the Libya Airport Authority, said, “This show has been extremely impressive. There are lots of technologies and solutions that I have never seen before. As a technical adviser to airports in Libya, I have seen things that we don’t currently have in Libya, so it has been very beneficial. Specifically, we are looking at access control solutions and automated material handling technology. I will definitely be interested in attending next year.”
Alongside the exhibition is the integral Passenger Terminal Conference that is being held across the three-day event and includes presentations from around 250 of the industry’s leading figures. Topics covered include airport design, planning and development, intermodal transport, commercial development, passenger experience, self-service, check-in and baggage processing.
According to show founder, Tony Robinson, Passenger Terminal Expo 2014 is set to break all records: “This year's conference and exhibition has always shown signs of being the biggest and best ever in the two to three months leading up to the opening and I am delighted to report that with over 1,300 people attending the conference and record numbers of visitors on day one at the show already, we really are looking at a record turnout. Investment in this industry is set to increase dramatically and Passenger Terminal Expo delivers a full picture experience to the visitors and delegates.
"Sometimes people say to me, can I categorise job titles. In reality, the people coming here are what I tend to refer to as executives responsible for airport design and operations and increasingly I use the phrase 'executives responsible for airport systems integration', so they are covering the whole spectrum from check-in, baggage handling and security through to passenger experience, comfort, retail and so on. The key for exhibitors being the fact that the people that come here really are decision making top level people, globally!”
