Australia and New Zealand prepare for Airport Safety Week 2015

The Australian Airports Association (AAA) and New Zealand Airports Association (NZ Airports) have released details of this year’s Airport Safety Week taking place from October 26-30, 2015.

While safety is a daily priority for any airport, Airport Safety Week gives operators a chance to engage with employees and contractors about key safety topics through a program of events and activities.

This year’s program will cover key issues in airside safety, fatigue, runway safety, noise, and drug and alcohol management.

Caroline Wilkie, CEO, AAA, said, “Airport Safety Week is an opportunity to engage all airport staff and contractors on safety, whether they are working on the airfield, in the terminal building, or landside.

“The campaign is supported by a dedicated website which provides participants with a number of tools and resources to stimulate and focus discussion on key safety issues.

“Airport Safety Week encourages people who work in airport environments to think about their personal safety as well as of those working around them, and passengers and visitors to the airport environment.”

Kevin Ward, CEO, NZ Airports, said “The Airport Safety Awards will again be a valuable part of Airport Safety Week this year, with awards for both regional and major airports.

“The Airport Safety Awards will recognize employees, teams, projects and organizations at airports across Australia and New Zealand that endeavor to support a positive safety environment.

“This year the awards will have a major focus on innovation in airport safety and highlight some of the outstanding work airports are undertaking to maintain a safe and sustainable aviation industry for Australasia.”
