London Gatwick seeking expressions of interest for projects worth US$1.15bn

London Gatwick Airport has called for expressions of interest for construction and engineering contracts worth approximately £750m (US$1.15bn). The work is part of an ongoing transformation program and includes projects such as asset replacement and building re-configuration.

The contracts form two large frameworks, one for straightforward operational contracts worth up to £1.5m (US$2.3m), and one for minor works projects worth between £1m (US$1.5m) and £10m (US$15.3m). Within each framework, three lots will be awarded, notably building, civil engineering and mechanical/electrical work. The frameworks for operational and minor works projects are expected to be in place by the end of the first quarter of 2016.

More complex major works projects, involving contracts potentially greater than £10m (US$15.3m), and for design consultancy services, will be the subject of separate procurement processes, with details to be made available later in 2015.

Lee Hewitt, capital procurement at Gatwick Airport, said, “We intend to appoint a framework of competent, cost effective civil engineering, building and mechanical/electrical contractors, including smaller and local firms, to support Gatwick’s Capital Investment Programme.

“The major works will help Gatwick to deliver on the next phase of our transformation which has already seen over £1bn (US$1.5bn) invested since Gatwick entered private ownership in 2009.”
