Non-Schengen area expanded at Riga International in Latvia

Riga International Airport in Latvia has completed the first phase of its airport development program with the expansion of its non-Schengen area and addition of three new boarding gates.

Local architect Arhis Arhitekti designed the new area while Latvian engineering firm Skonto Būve carried out the construction work. An open tender has been announced for the second construction phase of the terminal development, which will involve the construction of a new pier with 19 new boarding gates, three air bridges, new commercial areas and spacious passenger lounges. The second construction phase is scheduled for completion by autumn 2016.

Andris Liepiņš, chairman of the board for Riga International Airport, said, “Over the last few years, substantial investments have been made into the development of the airport, which in turn contributes to a stronger Latvian economy.

“We have now built infrastructure that improves the environment and increases the airport’s capacity. The expanded terminal will provide a better quality of service for passengers, making them more comfortable at the airport.”
