Sydney Airport launches T1 family entertainment area

Sydney Airport in Australia has unveiled its new interactive gaming area to entertain families departing from Terminal 1 (T1).

The new games include Virtual Kick-Off, an Australian Rules football league (AFL) simulation; and The Cubby House, an interactive touchscreen video game designed for younger players.

Virtual Kick-Off leverages augmented reality technology to allow the player to use their legs, hands and arms to maneuver a virtual ball through four goal posts. Low, medium and high winds along with a plastic grass carpet aim to make the experience more realistic while a leaderboard keeps track of the best kicks.

The Cubby House utilizes a large touchscreen display to provide the player with an immersive and user-friendly experience. Children can choose from three different mini games including Na – nah!, a digital version of tag with animated animals; Band Room, where the user can play as part of a band; and Balloon Pop, where the player uses the touchscreen to pop as many colorful balloons as they can in the allotted time. Both games are located beyond customs on Pier C.

Kerrie Mather, managing director and CEO of Sydney Airport, said, “Sydney Airport is working to improve the experience of all our passengers including our youngest. Our new and exciting interactive games will entertain families during the busy September school holiday period.

“Whether it’s kicking a winning goal, or exploring the lively and animated world of a modern cubby house, we’re encouraging kids and families to enjoy our new technology before their flight.

“With the upcoming AFL finals, I’m sure we’ll have a few of our smaller passengers enthralled by the uniquely Australian kicking game, although I won’t be surprised if there’ll be a few adults wanting to get involved in the fun too.”
