Glasgow Airport experiences exceptional growth for August 2015

Glasgow Airport in Scotland was one of Europe’s fastest growing airports in August 2015, according to European airport trade body ACI Europe, which released its latest traffic report yesterday (October 7).

The report listed Glasgow Airport as the fourth fastest growing airport in its category during the month, with annual passenger traffic increasing by 12.2%. ACI Europe categorizes airports based on annual passenger traffic with Glasgow Airport falling into group three, catering for between 5 and 10 million passengers annually. The top five airports for group three were; Gothenburg in Sweden (+16.0%); Budapest in Hungary (+15.0%); Porto in Portugal (+14.3%); Glasgow in Scotland (+12.2%) and Stuttgart in Germany (+11.0%).

It was the airport’s 30th consecutive month of growth after 878,515 passengers traveled through its doors. The month capped what was the airport’s busiest summer in seven years, with more than three million passengers passing through during June, July and August 2015.

Olivier Jankovec, director general, ACI Europe, said, “Summer is ending and we can look back at some very good months for passenger traffic at Europe’s airports. Within the context of still sluggish economic recovery in the Eurozone and risk of contagion from the slowdown in China and other emerging markets, oil prices are likely to remain the decisive factor for air traffic in the coming months. In limiting potential price hikes, the scale of global oil oversupply certainly gives us some comfort when looking at the months ahead.”
