Retail and dining development on schedule at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport in France has announced that the first phase of its retail and dining upgrade is progressing on schedule having recently opened a new centralized security control area and walkthrough duty free store.

Earlier in the year, Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur Group, the airport operator, selected Aelia to operate the alcohol, tobacco and fragrance concessions; Dufry to run the fashion outlets; and Relay and SSP to develop the new food and beverage offerings.

To accommodate the new offerings, the retail floor space is being expanded by approximately 12,900ft2 in Terminal 1 (T1) and 27,200ft2 in Terminal 2 (T2). The new upcoming food and beverage offerings include Chez Pipo, Starbucks, La Plage by Thierry Marx, Pan Garni, Pret à Manger and Saveurs de Provence. There will also be an additional Aelia Duty Free store and a number of fashion outlets opening in spring 2016.

Filip Soete, chief commercial officer, Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur Group, said, “By 2017, both terminals will have been entirely renovated to provide double the retail areas and double the waiting areas. As for T2, the work for the extension started on time on May 2015 to meet our May 2017 deadline. The challenge is to keep the terminal operational, without stopping any activities.

“Passengers in the new T1 now come out of security screening into a large store selling alcohol, tobacco and fragrances before they reach the departures lounge. Soon they will be sitting just a few feet away from some of the best names in the luxury and fashion industries. We chose to work with the best travel retail partners that reflect a certain sense of place in their concepts.”
