Budget approved for renovations at Seattle-Tacoma International

The Port of Seattle Commission has approved the 2016 budget for renovation and expansion works at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington, USA.

The total capital budget for 2016 is US$408.4m, with works taking place to renovate the North and South Satellite buildings, as well constructing a new international arrivals facility. Plans are also in place to optimize the airport’s baggage handling system. Next year’s projects are part of the airport’s five-year US$2.23bn capital improvement program to help improve the customer experience, reduce congestion and add capacity to accommodate future growth.

Ted Fick, CEO of the Port of Seattle, the airport operator, said, “This is not a status-quo budget. This is a growth-oriented budget so we can spur the regional economy, expand opportunities for small and disadvantaged businesses, increase family-wage jobs, help people acquire skills to move up the career ladder, and protect our environment.”

The Port of Seattle has predicted that more than 42 million passengers will pass through Seattle-Tacoma Airport by the end of 2015, representing an increase in passenger numbers of 12.5% when compared with 2014.
