Luxembourg Airport opens first phase of retail and dining project

Three new outlets have opened at Luxembourg Airport as part of an ongoing development project to improve the commercial offering for passengers.

The new stores have been opened as the first phase of a three-phase project and include a new Starbucks operated by concessionaire SSP, a renovated Press & Books store operated by Valora Luxembourg and a new 6,400ft² Aelia Duty Free Luxembourg concept designed by Lagardère Travel Retail. The leases for the three stores were signed in July 2015 and will run for a period of 10 years from November 2015.

The new points of sale constitute the first physical transformation to take place inside the terminal since it opened in 2008. The floor space dedicated to shopping and catering activities will exceed 21,500ft², up 20% from the previous configuration. The shops, restaurants and bars (12 points of sale in all) will all be furbished in a modern and contemporary style. The construction works are due to be completed in spring 2016.

Johan Vanneste, CEO of Luxembourg Airport, said, “I am very happy to inaugurate these first three points of sale which represent an initial major step in the process of recasting completely the shopping and catering offer at Luxembourg Airport. This ambitious project is undertaken in compliance with the initial schedule thanks to the joint efforts of the operators and the airport teams, while maintaining the normal running of the operations.”

Gérard d’Onofrio, general manager, SSP France, Benelux, said, “We are particularly proud to have opened the first Starbucks in Luxembourg. We have positioned our catering offer in terms of innovation and quality and this opening represents the first step of this renovation project at the side of Luxembourg Airport.”

Myriam Filali, general manager of Valora Luxembourg, said, “We are thrilled to open a second point of sale in a revamped Luxembourg Airport. The success of our new generation Press & Books airside had made us impatient to open this bookshop landside. We are convinced that we can provide our customers with as efficient a service in a modern, warm and dynamic environment.”

Michel Pérol, general manager, LS Travel Retail France, said, “Beyond this first inauguration, the upcoming openings planned in 2016 will illustrate the quality of our retail standards, particularly with the opening of a unique concept developed for Luxembourg, the House of Delights, featuring a whole range of local gastronomic products.”
