Permission granted for expansion of St Pete-Clearwater International

St Pete-Clearwater International Airport in Florida, USA, has been granted permission by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners to proceed with Phase 3 of the airport’s terminal renovation program.

The US$9.8m project will add approximately 12,000ft² to Gates 7-10 and will be delivered over a 15-month period with work starting in April 2016. Florida-based construction firm Artec Group will take the lead on the project.

When complete, the renovation will add 350 new seats to the passenger hold room, bringing total seating to 750 in this area. Additionally, both passenger screening checkpoints will be increased in size from two to three lanes to help expedite the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening process. There will also be improvements made to the news, gifts and food and beverage concessions, as well as the construction of a new children’s play area.

Tom Jewsbury, airport director for St Pete-Clearwater International Airport, said, “We are excited to get started on this project. For over three years we have been growing by double digits. Although the construction phase will present challenges, the end result will be worth it for our passengers’ comfort and convenience. We will strive to minimize any impacts to our customers and want to thank them for their continued patronage.”
