Morpho to supply biometric boarding solution for Changi Airport

Airport operator Changi Airport Group (CAG) has selected security solutions specialist Morpho to supply a biometric boarding solution, inclusive of facial recognition technology, for the soon-to-be-built Terminal 4 (T4) facility at Changi Airport in Singapore.

Morpho, a subsidiary of aircraft engineering firm Safran, will provide a full biometric passenger boarding solution comprising self-service bag-drop kiosks, integrated border clearance and self-service boarding gates. It will incorporate Morpho’s biometric applicant management system MorphoPass, as well as the company’s MorphoWay automated gates. When fully deployed, the solution will provide passengers with a less intrusive and faster security process at baggage drop-off, airside access, passport control and boarding.

Steve Lee, chief information officer and senior vice president, technology, CAG, said, “We partnered with Morpho to deploy this integrated passenger processing system with the objective of transforming the passenger experience. It’s the first time that facial recognition technology will be used at Changi Airport. The solution eliminates the need for manual identity verification by staff.”

Anne Bouverot, Morpho CEO, said, “We are very pleased that Changi Airport entrusted us with this project after an extensive evaluation process. With CAG, we are building the checkpoint of the future, combining the best in biometric accuracy, design efficiency and program execution. We look forward to pursing this partnership and expanding into other areas of collaborative innovation.”

The new biometric system will support CAG’s Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) concept for T4, which is scheduled for completion in 2017.
