Renovation completed at Port Columbus International

Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA), the operator of Port Columbus International Airport in Ohio, USA, has completed an US$80m terminal renovation and modernization project at the airport.

The three-year project involved a series of enhancements for the ticket lobby, baggage claim and Concourses A, B and C, as well as mechanical, technological and security upgrades. Features include four new local restaurants, high-speed wi-fi, better natural lighting, terrazzo flooring, comfortable lounge seating, and upgraded restrooms.

Elaine Roberts, president and CEO of CRAA, said, “We’re especially proud that 15% of the work was awarded to small and economically disadvantaged businesses. We recognize the importance of providing opportunities to businesses of all sizes. While under no federal requirement, this program provided a tremendous opportunity to partner with a wide variety of highly skilled companies.

“Travelers are enjoying two lounges with museum-quality displays that trace the airport’s rich history, a 2,480ft² mosaic with cultural scenes from Columbus, and an exhibit highlighting notable Ohio aviators.”

Construction statistics
The following had been installed as part of the US$80m terminal modernization project:
- More than six acres of new ceiling tiles (approximately 275,000ft2)
- Almost three acres of new carpet
(more than 130,000ft2)
- Enough drywall to cover 50 basketball courts (approximately 7,500 sheets of drywall)
- Nearly three American football fields of terrazzo flooring (more than 150,000ft2)
- 2,000 light fixtures
