Bavarian-styled duty-free concept to open at Munich Airport’s T2 satellite

Airport operator Flughafen München is set to open a new Bavarian-styled duty-free concept in its recently opened Terminal 2 satellite at Munich Airport in Germany.

Divided between three outlets, the MyDutyFree concept has been inspired by a number of sights from the city of Munich, including the Odeonsplatz Square, the Hofgarten (Court Garden), the university fountain and the Platzl theatre.

The 28,000ft² retail area will also be furnished with bronze statues depicting important cultural icons, as well as traditional Bavarian elements such as maypoles and beer garden tables. The store will also feature a multimedia wall for interactive brand presentations.

Developed by the airport’s trade subsidiary Eurotrade, the new concept will offer passengers a wide range of fragrances, cosmetic items, spirits, tobacco products, toys and confectionery, as well as accessories from renowned international labels. Newcomers to the selection include perfumes, cosmetics and accessories from the Victoria’s Secret brand and accessories from Aigner and Valentino.

Sven Zahn, managing director of Eurotrade, said, “Munich thrives on its diversity, the charm of the people who live there, its world famous ‘Gemütlichkeit’ and the Bavarian lifestyle. That lifestyle is what we want to communicate with the MyDutyFree brand. It offers a pleasant shopping experience full of surprises, and passengers will come to identify it with our airport.”

Rainer Beeck, the head of commercial activities at Munich Airport, said, “This entirely new concept by our trade subsidiary Eurotrade is an important milestone in the future-oriented development of Munich Airport’s retail landscape.”
