Lisbon Airport renamed Humberto Delgado Airport

Lisbon Airport in Portugal has been renamed Humberto Delgado Airport in acknowledgment of General Humberto Delgado, a Portuguese historical figure who fought for freedom and democracy during the Estado Novo (the Second Republic), a dictatorship installed in Portugal in 1933.

To mark the occasion, the operator ANA Aeroportos de Portugal held a ceremony to unveil the new official name on the outer façade of the terminal, as well as a commemorative plaque on the inside. Both the President and Prime Minister of Portugal attended the event, as did the Mayor of Lisbon.

In further celebration of the event, passengers will be able to visit the Humberto Delgado e a Liberdade dos Céus (Humberto Delgado and the Freedom of the Skies) exhibit, containing a series of multimedia panels showing a collection of photos and videos of General Delgado.
