Plans submitted for improvement works at Greater Rochester International

Cheryl Dinolfo, county executive for Monroe County in New York state, has submitted a proposal for the development and modernization of Greater Rochester International Airport.

The plans have been submitted to the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Solicitation initiative, which has made US$190m available to support improvement works in upstate US airports. Eligible airports were asked to complete and submit applications detailing an infrastructure plan in order to compete for a maximum project award of US$40m.

The submitted plans for Greater Rochester Airport include improved airport access; new gateway signage; an airport entry canopy covering the arrival/departure roadway; terminal upgrades to the security checkpoint; integrated communication technology for passengers with disabilities; and an expanded concessions marketplace complete with new children play zones and lounge seating.

“Our Airport is a gateway for millions of people each year and the transformative nature of this proposal will enhance the experience for all travelers,” said Dinolfo. “The proposal submitted to the state will help fuel our local economy by providing a world-class air travel experience for our residents and travelers. Our comprehensive proposal will allow the airport to continue as a safe, efficient and affordable transportation hub while promoting economic development, job creation and tourism right here in Monroe County.”

Michael A Giardino, director of aviation for Monroe County, said, “The airport industry has changed dramatically since 9/11. We are hopeful that the governor will award Greater Rochester International Airport the maximum project grant of US$40m. Our team is prepared to implement the funds responsibly and rapidly so that our community can begin to reap the benefits today of a terminal designed for the future.”
