AIG completes second phase of Queen Alia International terminal project

Airport International Group (AIG), the operator of Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan in the Middle East, is celebrating the completion of the second phase of the airport’s expansion project.

Valued at US$214m, the second phase has added approximately 470,000ft2 to the airport’s total area, increasing its maximum passenger capacity from nine million to 12 million travelers annually. There are future plans to increase the capacity to 16 million passengers per year.

As a result of the expansion, the total number of gates in operation at Queen Alia International has nearly doubled, increasing from 13 to 25, of which eight are remote gates and 17 are contact gates. The project has also added a number of new passenger facilities to the terminal, including two business lounges, two duty-free areas and four prayer rooms, as well as larger monitors, additional charging stations and an upgraded wi-fi system.

Faras Al Ramahi, chairman, AIG, said, “Witnessing the tremendous progress that Queen Alia Airport has made since the new terminal’s opening just three years ago has been truly rewarding. As we begin another chapter in the airport’s successful journey, which has been fostered by its leading world-renowned public-private partnership with the government of Jordan, we look forward to continuing to deliver top-notch services to citizens and visitors alike. The much-anticipated completion of the airport’s second expansion phase is an extraordinary milestone.”
