LAX ready for Aviation Career Day

The Community Relations Division of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in California is set to host its first LAX Aviation Career Day on November 9, 2016.

More than 700 local high school students are expected to participate in the event, designed to give students the opportunity to discover careers in the aviation field. The career day will also showcase aviation-related companies that offer entry-level jobs to high school graduates.

Valeria Velasco, vice president, Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, said, “Our goal is to encourage students to explore aviation and the many career paths available in the field. The career day will show the students the many options available and inspire them toward a future career in aviation.”

LAX Aviation Career Day will feature 40 exhibitors from airlines, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Los Angeles Airport Police, air cargo companies, and other aviation/aerospace companies. Students will also be able to meet industry professionals, visit interactive exhibits, and view static aircraft displays.

Trevor Daley, deputy executive director of external affairs, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the airport operator, said, “Aviation experts project a critical decline in the pool of pilots and technicians to maintain airlines, and other industry professionals by 2031. This event shows us we can fuel the future of aviation by inspiring students to develop a passion for aviation at an early age.”
