Gibraltar Airport reports 23.6% passenger growth

Gibraltar International Airport has reported an increase of 23.6% in passenger growth during the first 10 months of 2016, compared with the same period in 2015. Government statistics say that 468,874 passengers were processed up to the end of October, with just 379,029 the previous year – a rise of 89,665.

May 2016 set a new monthly record for the airport, with 49,583 visitors passing through, but was topped twice by July and August, with 58,719 and 60,360 respectively. Gibraltar Airport currently serves eight destinations, with six in the UK and two in Morocco.

Terence Lopez, air terminal director at Gibraltar International Airport, said, “I would like to thank the entire team at the airport for providing a positive experience to our passengers. They have performed excellently this summer and have coped very well with the extra volumes. We welcome this growth and look forward to a busy winter.”

Gilbert Licudi QC MP, minister for commercial aviation and tourism, added, “This is fantastic news for Gibraltar and reaffirms this government’s commitment to developing air services and increasing connectivity. This is great for business and tourism. The airport continues to break records and we look forward to closing 2016 with a fantastic result."
