Groupe ADP to expand Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu

French airport operator Groupe ADP has revealed its plans for the modernization and expansion of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The project includes the construction of a new 100,000ft² international terminal with six contact stands, 18 remote stands, an adjoining VIP terminal and the capacity to serve 7.5 million passengers annually. Upon project completion, the current international terminal will be converted into a domestic terminal enabling the airport to serve a total of 12 million passengers annually.

Groupe ADP was awarded the Tribhuvan airport contract following extensive damage caused by an earthquake in April 2015. The infrastructure and architecture of the new development will therefore need to implement anti-seismic technologies, while maintaining harmony with the surrounding environment, particularly the adjacent forest and sloping landscape.

Groupe ADP is currently working on the detailed design of the terminal with full completion scheduled for 2021.
