YVR invites public to consult on third stage of C$5.6bn masterplan

Vancouver Airport Authority, the operator of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in British Columbia, Canada, has unveiled the third stage of its C$5.6bn (US$4.2bn) transformation program, which will expand the airport’s capacity to handle an estimated 35 million passengers by 2037.

Flight Plan 2037 includes a Capital Plan, Terminal Plan, Financial Plan and the YVR 2037 Master Plan. These blueprints include details relating to expanded terminals, new taxiways, a geo-exchange heating and cooling system, and upgraded roads and bridges.

During the second consultation phase, public input was received on ground access, the environment, community amenities, terminal development, airside development and land use. The third consultation phase will lead to the final plan’s public release in 2018, once approved by the Canadian Minister of Transport. Proposed construction works will begin with the expansion of Pier D and the East Concourse.

Craig Richmond, president and CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority, said, “I am so proud to lead the team that developed and will execute Flight Plan 2037. This plan is built to provide for the long-term capacity needs at YVR, while meeting and enhancing our sustainability goals and ensuring we build in an incremental fashion.

“Our future is being shaped by the ongoing dialogue with thousands of British Columbians and our airline partners, who participated in our Phase 1 and 2 Master Plan consultations. Today, I am also inviting you to participate in Phase 3 of the YVR 2037 Master Plan and continue to help build our airport of the future.”

YVR welcomed a record 22.3 million passengers in 2016, generated C$5.3bn (US$4bn) in GDP and drove C$11.7bn (US$8.8bn) into the Canadian economy.
