Garden walls unveiled in both terminals at Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt Airport in Germany has unveiled a series of new vertical gardens in the departure lounges and waiting areas of terminals 1 and 2. The largest of the walls can be found in Terminal 2 (T2) measuring approximately 1,450ft².

The art of integrating plants in walls is based on hydroculture techniques, where the plants grow in special mats without soil and are automatically irrigated with the aid of a drainage system. Frankfurt Airport now sports various types of ferns, climbing plants, spider plants and red Flamingo flowers.

Passengers can also retreat to new modern seating areas, each featuring around 110 seats, surrounded by artificial plants and trees that visually shield the triangular islands from the hustle and bustle of the terminals. The furniture includes armrests, small round tables, power outlets, and USB ports. Special lighting adds to the feel-good atmosphere of each area.
