Edinburgh Airport reveals signed facilities for hidden disabilities

edinburgh airport grace's sign hidden disabilities accessible facilities passenger terminalEdinburgh Airport welcomed 11-year-old Grace Warnock to officially unveil her specially signposted toilet and facilities for those with hidden disabilities.

‘Grace’s Sign’ is designed to highlight how people should be considerate to those with invisible disabilities and allow those with such conditions to be able to use accessible toilets without fear of comments from others.

Grace has Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel condition that can be painful and require more toilet stops than someone without it.

She designed the bathroom sign that includes both a person in a wheelchair and a standing person with a heart, symbolizing people with invisible conditions. Grace is hoping to make the world a more accessible place with her sign, which could be put on accessible facilities throughout the country.

Gordon Robertson, Edinburgh Airport’s director of communications, said, “It is a great honor to have Grace here at Edinburgh Airport – her work raising awareness and improving facilities for invisible illnesses really is an inspiration.

“We aim to make Edinburgh Airport the most accessible airport for everyone – regardless of what accessibility and requirements they may have. Improving our facilities and the passenger experience is a vital part of our business plan.”

Grace added, “I am really thrilled to see my sign here at Edinburgh Airport as so many people come here from all over the world. Grace’s Sign is one of the first or last things that people see when they arrive, or before they leave, Scotland – so hopefully that will help spread the word.”
