Sydney Airport joins World’s Largest Open House event

Sydney Airport has joined the annual World’s Largest Open House event, where eight venues open their doors to raise money for NSW Kids in Need.

The airport is offering a behind-the-scenes tour on April 30, with ticket costs being donated to six children’s charities including Bear Cottage children’s hospice, The Burns Unit at the Children’s Hospital in Westmead, and SHINE for Kids.

Sally Fielke, Sydney Airport general manager of corporate affairs, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community to support six children’s charities – while also taking part in a once in a lifetime experience.

“Our airside adventure will give people a whole new view of the airport, highlighting the work that 29,000 people across 800 different businesses on the airport do every day to keep the airport running.”

Sydney Airport joins locations across the state of New South Wales opening their doors for the event, including the Classic Car Museum, the naval vessel HMAS Canberra docked at Garden Island, Sydney CBD and Alexandria fire stations, and the Mounted Police Station.

Peter Debnam, NSW Kids in Need founder and chairman, added, “We’re thrilled to have Sydney Airport on board as a critical partner in this year’s venue line-up. This is rare insight into one of the country’s most fascinating public facilities.”

The event has raised more than A$320,000 (US$242,17) over the last two years, attracting more than 100,000 people.

Tickets can be purchased through the NSW Kids in Need website
