Edinburgh Airport’s community board backs local schools and projects

edinburgh airport community board grant passenger terminalEdinburgh Airport Community Board has awarded the latest round of funding grants to support school and organizations across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife in Scotland.

Twenty community-based projects have been provided with an additional £40,000 (US$51,287), bringing the total of grants awarded to non-profits, charities and community organizations through the board since it was established in 2012 to almost £600,000 (US$768,900).

Carmondean Primary School in Livingston was awarded funding that will be used to build better playground facilities using natural resources such as logs, decking, wooden poles and netting.

Laura Smith, a teach at the school, commented, “The benefits of this funding will be phenomenal: it will help us achieve better outcomes for the pupils [such as] creating a stronger sense of well-being, and providing a space outdoors that our children are inspired by, are proud of and love to be in.”

Queensferry Churches Care in the Community, an elderly person day care service in South Queensferry and Kirkliston, was also a successful applicant and will use its grant to go toward providing exercise and music activities.

Milesmark and Baldridge Community Council in Dunfermline received funding that will go toward improving communal social space and children’s play facilities in Bull Park.

Gayle Barclay, communications project manager at Edinburgh Airport and the secretary of Edinburgh Airport community board, said, “We take our role within the community very seriously so being able to give something back by helping these schools and vital local organizations via our Community Board is a great part of the Edinburgh Airport story.”

Alex Cole Hamilton MSP, the chair of the Community Board, added, “The support offered by the airport to worthy causes is a source of great pride to airport staff and the community of West Edinburgh alike. The fund is making a transformational difference to groups delivering amazing work right across the region. I’m proud to be associated with it.”
