UK-bound flights from Turkey and Tunisia airports allow electronic devices in hand luggage

Restrictions on carrying large phones, laptops and tablets in hand luggage on UK-bound flights from two airports in Turkey and Tunisia have been lifted.

Passengers departing on flights to the UK from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen and Tunis-Carthage International in Tunisia will be able to pack their electronic devices for use on board, following a ban enforced in light of potential terrorist threats in March.

Restrictions remain in place at other airports and will be lifted on a case-by-case basis once the UK government has verified that airlines have put in place alternative security measures, and that it is safe and proportionate to do so.

Istanbul Atatürk, Izmir, Bodrum, Antalya, and Dalaman airports in Turkey; Cairo, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, and Luxor airports in Egypt; Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah and Riyadh airports; Jordan’s Amman airport; and Beirut airport in Lebanon continue to be affected by restrictions, although some individual airlines may be exempt. Passengers travelling from these airports should contact their airlines for advice about whether their flights are affected.
