Xovis to deploy passenger tracking technology at London Luton Airport

Swiss-based software developer Xovis has been awarded a competitive tender to equip boarding pass and security checkpoints at London Luton Airport (LLA) with cutting-edge 3D sensors and software solutions. This will enable the airport to measure key performance indicators (KPIs) such as queue lengths and passenger waiting times, helping to streamline operations.

Kimberly Kennedy, senior manager passenger services, said, “We are investing £150m (US$197m) to transform our airport and need the most accurate and reliable technology to gather quality data. We are confident that Xovis will be a valuable asset to help streamline our processes, improve the passenger experience and increase satisfaction.”

Andreas Fähndrich, managing director Xovis Airports, said, “It is always great to welcome a new customer, in particular as the result of a competitive tender. LLA is the latest Xovis airport in the extremely fast-growing London region. We are proud and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the airport’s promising future and to live up to our promise to provide the most reliable technology for people flow monitoring in the market.”

Xovis 3D sensors are mounted on the terminal ceiling and used count to and track passengers discreetly. Passengers are recognized as individuals even if they within 18cm (7in) of one another. The automated queue detection software connects an unlimited number of sensors and displays the measured KPIs on real-time dashboards. LLA will deploy a total of 24 Xovis 3D sensors.
