Field Service Engineer (m/f) at Schiphol Airport

As a Field Service Engineer at Smiths Detection you will be responsible for installation, servicing, maintenance and troubleshooting of complex and state-of-the-art X-Ray and Detection equipment at customer sites. The position is based in Amsterdam. You will be expected to work in a shift model to support the 24/7 operations at Schiphol Airport. The role may also include travels to various locations within a defined region as and when required.

Duties & responsibilities:
• Gain and maintain an expert level of technical knowledge on X-Ray and Trace products deployed on site by Smiths Detection
• Ensure to meet all daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction
• Installation, commissioning, maintenance and repairs of equipment in the field
• Provide operator instructions as required
• Document all inspections, maintenance, repair works and submit paperwork in a timely manner
• Review all logs for open issues and prepare formal reports to customers as necessary
• Order, install, return parts and manage local spare part stock to ensure availability and best cycle times
• Ensure that tools and test equipment is properly maintained and calibrated
• Assess product/equipment performance based on field support data
• Use experience and insights gained to recommend modifications or improvements
• Exercise every available measure to control and minimize costs
• Seek to provide technical support to customers and other service professionals as required
• Participate in site surveys, pilot program service activities, attend meetings, champion special projects and prepare exclusive reports as needed
• Participate in service sales opportunities and assist with promoting and implementing revenue programs
• Establish and maintain a close relationship with senior level FSE’s and Product Specialist in order to support the needs of the customer and remain aware of current technical trends
• Maintain clear and concise business communication proficiency, both oral and written
• Participation in Stand-by and Shift-work Services
• Comply with and ensure department compliance with the applicable health, safety and environmental policies

Required Skills & Experience:
• Technical studies, with understanding of complex engineered instrumentation
• Extensive experience in the technical support of x-ray and detection equipment, or related instrumentation
• Fluent in Dutch and English, written and spoken, German as a third language is an asset
• Experience in use of normal office applications (mainly Microsoft Office Suite); additional experience in systems like SAP and Maximo is welcomed
• Excellent communication and strong troubleshooting skills; ability to multi-task on projects
• Good team player with a strong focus on the customer and his requirements
• Ability to diffuse volatile customer situations as required
• Blameless police report to pass all necessary security checks imposed by customers and authorities
