The awareness campaign began on January 11 in three major airports: Columbia Metropolitan Airport, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport and Myrtle Beach International Airport.</p>
<p>“Human trafficking happens in our backyards,” Wilson said. “Most of the time, it&#8217;s not far off in exotic places but in our local communities.</p>

<p>The implementation of the new staff volunteering policy forms part of the airport’s Sustainability Roadmap and its third sustainability pillar, ‘Helping East London Grow and Prosper’. LCY staff recently completed a summer volunteering fortnight in the local community, supporting several charities, food banks and educational programs in schools and mentoring students.</p>

<p>The scheme, launched in 2022, has seen more than 300 restored laptops purchased in exchange for a minimum £50 (US$60) donation. This has resulted in SASH Charity – the charity for East Surrey Hospital and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – receiving £18,991 (US$23,938) since the project’s inception in 2022.</p>

<p>Skyline Air Services and Egyptair Cargo joined forces for these humanitarian flights. The airport ground handling company Aviapartner gave its full support and cooperation for the fast handling of these flights. From Istanbul, the goods will be distributed in the affected regions. The goods on board Egyptair Cargo&#8217;s two A330 cargo planes included blankets, clothing, tents, emergency generators and medical equipment.</p>

<p>Contributions were collected through the three collection globes positioned across the airport in which passengers deposited leftover currency. Money raised through the globes will be donated to charity partners Kayleigh’s Wee Stars and We Too!</p>
<p>The total amount collected came from dozens of global currencies including Croatian kunas, Turkish lira, Polish zloty, Singaporean dollars, South African rands and Israeli new shekel.</p>

<p>The QHP applies to certain residences around San Diego International Airport (SAN) in California, deemed eligible by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These homes may receive retrofitted exterior doors and windows, a ventilation system and other items such as weather stripping and caulking around openings, noticeably reducing noise levels by at least 5dB inside the home.</p>

<p>The pupils made a presentation to a panel of judges, including trustees from the airport’s Community Trust Fund and a representative from event partner Gardena. The grant will go toward an eco-friendly outdoor learning space in a disused area of the school campus. It will be a sustainable community allotment, growing produce that will then be used in cooking classes, with a ‘forest school’ designed to attract native plants and wildlife, and an open-air classroom complete with a weather station that will be used in science and geography sessions.</p>

<p>Defibrillators can provide a lifeline when someone suffers a cardiac arrest, increasing their chances of survival while medical help is on its way. The airport has recently updated all the devices in its terminals and, after thorough testing, intends to ensure the previous models go to good use.</p>

<p>In total, £41,580 (US$46,600) of funding has been awarded to 15 local groups and community organizations covering six East London boroughs: Newham, Hackney, Lewisham, City of London, Tower Hamlets, and Barking and Dagenham. The successful applicants will receive grants of up to £3,000 (US$3,360) to enable change in their local communities.</p>
<p>Grantees that have secured funding in this latest round include Newham All Star Sports Academy, which is working with young girls in Newham and neighboring boroughs to support mental health and well-being through sport, plus Blind in Business, based in the City of London, which works with surrounding East London boroughs to support blind beneficiaries by raising their aspirations and getting them into employment.</p>
