Brisbane Airport (BNE) has capped its 100th anniversary year with a series of record-breaking passenger milestones.

The airport saw a record total of 25 million passengers during the calendar year, making 2025 its busiest year yet. December was also the busiest-ever month in the airport’s history, with December 22 the airport’s busiest day. BNE also saw new daily records set in both the international and domestic terminals.

In 2025, Brisbane Airport handled 24.98 million passengers, up 5.3% year-on-year.

Abu Dhabi has taken a major step toward establishing commercial air taxi services, announcing plans for a network of vertiports across the emirate to support future electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations.

The initiative is being led by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) in collaboration with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), and Abu Dhabi Airports (ADA). It forms part of the emirate’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI) cluster, which promotes advanced and sustainable mobility technologies as part of Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification strategy.

La Guardia Gateway Partners (LGP), the manager and developer of LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B, have announced the opening of Mezze, the newest dining option for travelers and terminal employees.

Mezze is a modern, fast and casual Mediterranean restaurant. It is halal-certified, with a menu featuring sandwiches, hot entrées, and fresh-baked pastries.

It is owned and operated by MSJ786, a Queen’s based airport operator. Mezze joins the popular fast casual restaurant Wendy’s as the operator’s second offering.

The City of Chicago and Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) has broke ground on Concourse D at O’Hare International Airport. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in collaboration with Ross Barney Architects, Juan Gabriel Moreno Architects (JGMA) and Arup, the first new building in O’Hare’s transformative ORDNext expansion has been underway since the team was selected in 2019 through an international design competition.

“By breaking ground on Concourse D, we are taking a critical first step toward enhancing how the airport welcomes and serves more than 80 million passengers each year,” said commissioner Michael McMurray of the CDA.

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) has released a new Long Range Broad Agency Announcement (LRBAA), which is a standing, open invitation to the scientific and technical communities to propose research and development projects in support of US national security. DHS is encouraging proposals for 23 research and development topics, which include screening at speed (SaS) and detection canine technologies.

SaS is the DHS S&T program that aims to increase security effectiveness while reducing wait times and improving the passenger experience.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has installed a new computed tomography (CT) security screening unit at Salem Municipal Airport (SLE) to screen the checked baggage of departing travelers.

The new unit means that TSA officers will conduct a physical inspection of a traveler’s checked bag only if it triggers an alarm for a potential security threat.

The scanner uses CT technology to generate a 3D image of the contents of the checked bag.

India’s National Security Guard (NSG) has conducted an anti-hijack drill at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru in an effort to enhance security and emergency response protocol. The exercise tested NSG’s use of technologies such as real-time communication systems, surveillance equipment and anti-terrorism platforms.

A variety of scenarios were played out to assess and improve the airport’s tactical readiness to handle critical situations, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety and security of passengers and staff.
