Food and beverage operator SSP Switzerland has opened a new Mediterranean-inspired dining venue in Zurich Airport.

The Walter restaurant is set in an elegant and stylish environment, created through the use of luxurious furnishings, tones of grey and warm natural wood. Above the central bar is a floating glass wine cabinet created as a striking focal point. The installation holds over 2,000 bottles and can be used as a platform for a DJ booth or private wine tasting event.

Walter’s menu encompasses a selection of Mediterranean dishes ranging from small plates and snacks to hearty main courses. This includes a choice of pastas such as spaghetti alla carbonara, maccheroni al pesto verde and strozzapreti al gameroni, as well as focacce. Customers can also choose from a buffet of hot and cold dishes, ideally suited for passengers with time constraints. A breakfast selection is available for early risers.

Cornelius Everke, CEO DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and FRABEL (France, Belgium and Netherlands) at SSP said, “Walter will offer travelers at Zurich something a little out of the ordinary. Even its name, which might appear to be a traditional German sounding word, is in fact an acronym. Warm, aromatisch, lecker, traumhaft, erfrischend und reichhaltig, loosely translated means warm, appealing, lovely, toothsome, exquisite and relishing. This is a flagship venue that we are certain will quickly gain a reputation as a must-visit restaurant for the discerning international traveler.”

Patrick Graf, senior vice president commercial for Zurich Airport, said, “Walter is an important milestone as part of our strategy to deliver a variegated, extraordinary and entertaining dining experience to our passengers. Besides its stylish environment and the stunning view on the tarmac, Walter also pays attention to new F&B trends such as food sharing or the opportunity to choose smaller meals, which was especially requested by female travelers. To make a long story short – if you travel through Zurich Airport without planning a stopover at Walter, you are definitely missed something.”
