US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has issued a solicitation notice, seeking biometric systems to modernize its Global Entry program.

CBP is looking to acquire biometric solutions capable of enabling travelers to proceed through high-throughput lanes in a continuous flow environment using biometric facial comparison solutions integrated with CBP Traveler Verification Service (TVS) or successor systems.

TVS is a facial biometric matching service that compares live-captured photographs against temporary galleries, which are assembled using source photos of travelers arriving or departing the port of entry.

Latvia’s Riga Airport has completed the planning and development stage of its terminal extension project, and expects preparatory construction works to begin this month.

The project includes the expansion of the existing terminal through the construction of new check-in facilities, passenger waiting areas, a security screening zone and a baggage reclaim hall. External areas surrounding the terminal building, including access roads and parking facilities, will also be redeveloped and upgraded. The project includes new passenger service and security technologies.

Passengers departing from Ireland’s Shannon Airport can now bring liquids, aerosols and gels in containers up to two liters in their hand luggage. This replaces the previous 100ml restriction.

The change, which is now in effect, follows an investment in new security screening technology and upgraded elements of the airport’s existing 3D scanners, which were first installed at the airport in 2021.

The system had already removed the need for travelers to take liquids, aerosols, gels and electronic devices such as laptops out of their cabin bags when passing through security, reducing touchpoints and helping to make the journey through security more efficient.

SITA has launched SITA Border Flow Lane, designed to streamline passenger processing with pre-clearance, “move-through” capabilities. Instead of processing travelers one at a time, the technology assesses identity and risk continuously, across every traveler at once without the need for a fixed, physical barrier.

SITA says the new system can make border clearance up to eight times faster than traditional border control e-gates, freeing up immigration and security personnel to spend more time on cases that need their attention.

The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has deployed Ace, an AI agent built by Salesforce.

Since going live during the summer travel surge, Ace has handled approximately 100,000 routine traveler conversations per month and resolved 96% of routine inquiries – such as how to pack liquids or enter a checkpoint with a medical device – without human escalation. The deployment is part of a broader modernization initiative led by the TSA’s customer experience branch to improve traveler service with Salesforce.

The USA’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a new benefit for TSA PreCheck members. The Gateside by TSA PreCheck initiative enables TSA PreCheck members to request a free gateside pass to go beyond the TSA checkpoint at participating airports. Participants can use the program to accompany people to the gate, greet arriving passengers, enjoy airport dining and shopping, or experience the terminal without being booked on a flight.

Gateside by TSA PreCheck is available at 13 airports:

• Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

Brisbane Airport has opened a new 12-lane passport control area at its International Terminal, with the facility becoming operational in time for the September school holidays.

The passport control point has been relocated to Level 4 of the International Terminal, alongside a new security screening area. Check-in, security screening and passport control are now located on a single level for the first time. The airport said the move also allows for a near doubling of the duty-free retail area.

On March 21, 2026, CNN reported that 20 US airports without TSA screening were not experiencing the long passenger lines observed at some TSA-operated airports. Since then, preliminary Bureau of Transportation Statistics data has provided an opportunity to compare security delays at US airports during and after the March 2026 TSA shutdown. The 20 airports participating in the Screening Partnership Program (SPP) may have been less directly exposed to TSA screening-staffing shortages during March 2026 because passenger screening was conducted by private contractors under TSA oversight.

India’s Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has held security exercises at Tirupati and Delhi airports.

The annual Anti-Hijacking Mock Exercise (AHME) at Tirupati simulated the landing of a hijacked aircraft in accordance with the established contingency and Anti-Hijacking Exercise plan. CISF, state police, Airports Authority of India, government agencies, airlines and other stakeholders participated in the exercise to assess operational preparedness.

CISF said on September 3 that the exercise reinforced inter-agency coordination, timely mobilization and effective crisis response.

The USA’s Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) is accepting requests for membership in the Screening Systems Data Sharing Consortium. TSL is partnering with the Transportation Security Administration to develop and implement an open architecture approach to screening.

The consortium works to provide developers with vast amounts of data representing the inspection of individuals and objects containing concealed threat articles using developmental screening systems.

Membership will be granted in the form of a bilateral Cooperative Research & Development Agreement (CRADA).
