Neir’s Tavern, one of New York City’s oldest bars, has opened a new location at Terminal 8 of John F Kennedy International Airport, through a partnership with MERA, ASUR Airports, American Airlines and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Founded in 1829 in Woodhaven in Queens, Neir’s Tavern is now one of 20 locally inspired concessions to open at the terminal as part of a US$125m commercial development program delivered with terminal commercial operator ASUR Airports and American Airlines.

Ostend-Bruges Airport and catering partner Erasmus Catering have opened the renovated food and beverage area and expanded VIP lounge ahead of the summer holiday season, following renovation work carried out this spring.

The F&B area has received a complete makeover, with a redesigned layout and fully updated interior, building on an initial renovation of the departure zone in 2017 that included an expanded shop and F&B establishment.

Belfast International Airport, part of the Vinci Airports network, has opened a new WHSmith store in the airside departures concourse, expanding the retail offering available to passengers.

The store stocks a range of products, including food and drink, health and beauty items, books, magazines, travel essentials and a selection of local and international brands, catering to leisure and business travelers. It features a modern design, including a mural reflecting Belfast, along with clear navigation, efficient checkout areas and a layout suited to high passenger flow.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is implementing a series of passenger-facing and operational developments ahead of the summer peak season.

The upgrades focus on Terminal 2 and are intended to support traffic growth while maintaining operations until the completion of the airport’s longer-term Terminal+ development program.

Passenger processing capacity has been increased with the addition of seven hybrid check-in counters at Terminal 2A. Installed in a former retail area, the counters can operate as either traditional desks or self-service bag-drop units, depending on demand.

The UK government has launched a public consultation on the framework for future decisions on a third runway at Heathrow Airport, marking a step toward a final planning decision in 2029.

The consultation, which opened on June 18, 2026, will run for more than 10 weeks until September 1, 2026. It invites businesses, communities and the public to weigh in on how a third-runway project would address four key areas: air quality, noise, climate change and economic growth.

iGA Istanbul Airport now sources 100% of its electricity from solar energy, the company has announced, crediting its Eskişehir Solar Power Plant (SPP) for the milestone.

The airport now sources all electricity used in its operations from renewable energy, which it describes as a critical milestone on its path toward its 2050 Net Zero Emissions target. As of 2026, the airport says it is running entirely on green energy and is ahead of schedule on that roadmap.

Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality, Swissport’s airport hospitality brand, has announced a new 300-seat lounge at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2, set to open in late August 2026.

The opening will be Aspire’s third lounge at Manchester and its second in Terminal 2, following recent UK expansions in Liverpool and Birmingham. The lounge is positioned away from the main departures area and includes spaces for groups and families, dining areas, a quiet zone and private work rooms.

The Dubai government has confirmed that the first phase of the Al Maktoum International Airport development project is proceeding according to approved timelines, with significant progress made across key development packages. The project remains on track to begin operations in 2032.

Major milestones have been reached across multiple delivery streams, including enabling works, runway infrastructure and the initial structural foundations for passenger terminals and gates.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Airports, said the project has entered a large-scale construction phase.

European Parliament negotiators have reached a provisional agreement with the European Council on an overhaul of EU air passenger rights, maintaining compensation for three-hour flight delays and introducing new protections on child seating, price transparency and reimbursement timelines. The rules had not been updated since 2004.

The deal preserves passengers’ rights to compensation for delays exceeding three hours, cancellations made fewer than 14 days before departure, and denied boarding. Compensation levels are set by flight distance: €250 (US$290) for journeys up to 1,500km, €400 (US$463) for 1,500km-3,500km, and €600 (US$695) for longer routes.

The UK government has announced a £219m (US$294m) Low Carbon Fuels Fund (LCFF) to support domestic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, with £93m (US$124m) available immediately for companies to apply for from mid-July.

The fund, which launches later this summer, will prioritize projects closest to actual production stage. It builds on £198 (US$266m) previously invested through the Advanced Fuels Fund (AFF) since 2022. The government says low carbon fuel production could add up to £5bn (US$6.7bn) to the economy and support 15,000 jobs by 2050.
