The Australian government has approved Sydney Airport’s Master Plan 2045, setting out the airport’s long-term growth strategy for the next two decades.

The airport said the plan supports efforts to meet future demand, strengthen Australia’s global connectivity and drive economic growth across New South Wales.

The masterplan forecasts that Sydney Airport will handle more than 72 million passengers annually by 2045, comprising 36.4 million international passengers and 36.2 million domestic and regional passengers.

Aurrigo International has been awarded £1.43m (US$1.93m) in UK government funding to investigate how autonomous vehicles can be used to make airports safer.

The company, which moved into its new Advanced Engineering Centre in Coventry earlier this year, will use the CAM Pathfinder grant to deploy its Auto-Shuttle vehicles to complete routine tasks including security patrols, perimeter inspections, and bird detection and deterrence. The vehicles will also be used to inspect runway and taxiway surfaces for cracks, wear or loose objects that could damage aircraft.

American Airlines and Infinium have announced the first delivery of electro sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) to a commercial airport for use on a commercial passenger flight, in what the companies describe as a major milestone in aviation decarbonization.

The eSAF was allocated to an American Airlines flight that departed Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP) and landed at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The fuel was produced and blended at Infinium’s Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi – described as the world’s first commercial-scale power-to-liquids e-fuels production site, operating since 2023 – and blended with conventional jet fuel to meet the ASTM International specification for Jet A, certifying its use in current aircraft engines and fueling infrastructure without modification.

London Luton Airport (LLA) is offering free bus travel throughout August 2026 to encourage holidaymakers across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire to leave their cars at home.

Under the Fly and Ride initiative, adult passengers can travel free on a range of Arriva and Stagecoach services by showing a valid printed or digital boarding pass for an LLA flight during August 2026. The scheme complements the Department for Transport‘s free summer bus travel offer for children aged five to 15 in England, meaning many families can reach the airport at no cost this month.

Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has released its inaugural Sustainability Strategy, which details how sustainability has been embedded in its design to reduce carbon footprint and the path to becoming net zero.

Set to become Australia’s first greenfield international airport in over 50 years, the new 24-hour gateway has secured two key partnerships to help achieve this goal. CleanPeak Energy will support the delivery of 100% renewable electricity for the airport precinct; and Freightquip will supply and operate an almost entirely electrified GSE fleet covering the full scope of airport operations.

The USA’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has formed a new partnership with Google Wallet, providing a new way for travelers to opt in to TSA PreCheck Touchless ID. Google Wallet is the first digital wallet to offer this feature.

With TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, members can quickly verify their identity using facial comparison technology in exclusive, dedicated lanes. There is no need for them to present physical documents. TSA says the initiative reduces wait times.

Brisbane Airport has become Australia’s first major airport to trial a fleet of autonomous robot mowers, in a pilot program the airport says sets a new benchmark for automation, sustainability and innovation in airside operations.

The robotic fleet operates with advanced navigation and safety systems, with sensors, geofencing and a physical barrier keeping four mowers within prescribed safe areas. The pilot program is managing a growing portion of Brisbane Airport’s 919 hectares of airside land, equivalent to 54 South Bank Parklands (a Brisbane city park), with coverage extending into additional airside areas over time as the fleet grows.

iGA Istanbul Airport now sources 100% of its electricity from solar energy, the company has announced, crediting its Eskişehir Solar Power Plant (SPP) for the milestone.

The airport now sources all electricity used in its operations from renewable energy, which it describes as a critical milestone on its path toward its 2050 Net Zero Emissions target. As of 2026, the airport says it is running entirely on green energy and is ahead of schedule on that roadmap.

The UK government has announced a £219m (US$294m) Low Carbon Fuels Fund (LCFF) to support domestic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, with £93m (US$124m) available immediately for companies to apply for from mid-July.

The fund, which launches later this summer, will prioritize projects closest to actual production stage. It builds on £198 (US$266m) previously invested through the Advanced Fuels Fund (AFF) since 2022. The government says low carbon fuel production could add up to £5bn (US$6.7bn) to the economy and support 15,000 jobs by 2050.

Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) has partnered with Somerset Wildlife Trust and Kent Wildlife Trust to fund two nature-based carbon removal projects, investing £1m (US$1.3m) to remove 10,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from the atmosphere.

The projects, facilitated by non-profit Wilder Carbon, will see degraded former agricultural land transformed into species-rich habitats at Ironhurst Valley Nature Reserve in Kent and Honeygar Farm in Somerset. Both meet the Wilder Carbon Standard for Nature and Climate.
