Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, has been recognized as the world’s best airport project by construction publication Engineering News Record (ENR).
The award was presented to the airport’s builders, Turkish airport engineering firm TAV Construction, at ENR’s Global Construction Summit in New York, USA. TAV began constructing the 1,650,000ft² terminal in 2012, along with 26 auxiliary buildings, two runways and three parallel taxiways. It was completed in July 2015 and was awarded LEED Gold certification by the United States Green Buildings Council (USGBC).
Cumhur Kaur, deputy general manager for TAV Construction, Saudi Arabia and Africa, said, “TAV Construction has become one of the leading companies of the sector in a short period of time through the airport projects carried out at home and abroad. We have undertaken projects, particularly in Turkey and the Gulf region, with a total contract value of more than US$17.2bn. We are also listed as the top company in airport construction category in the annual listings of ENR magazine.
“We have been awarded this title as a result of fulfilling important significant criteria such as international teamwork, innovation, occupational health and safety, design functionality and quality.”
