The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has completed its PHP40m (US$854,000) terminal renovation program for Legazpi International Airport in the Bicol Region.
According to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the new terminal has been constructed using glass paneling instead of walls, to increase the use of natural light and reduce the building’s environmental impact. The terminal has also been expanded to accommodate up to 500 passengers at a time, and now includes offices for the Bureau of Immigration, customs and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
In the report, Cynthia Tumanut, manager of Legazpi International Airport, said, “The management could not just sit and watch the discomfort experienced by passengers due to the cramped space and insufficient vents in the old passenger terminal.”
Legazpi Airport handles an average of 400,000 passengers annually and processes flights by Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Cebu Pacific-Tiger Air.
