Airport operator Vinci Airports has completed two terminal extension projects for Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airports in Cambodia. Hun Sen, the country’s Prime Minister, inaugurated the new extensions during an official ceremony held yesterday (March 16) at Phnom Penh Airport.
More than US$100m has been spent on the two projects over a three-year construction period, with both airports remaining operational throughout. The expansion works have doubled the combined capacity of both airports from five million to 10 million passengers annually, and include a new 15,000ft² business lounge at Phnom Penh.
Cambodia’s aviation sector has increased tenfold over the past 20 years, driven by the country’s dynamic tourism sector. Vinci’s investment in the two airports is part of the company’s ongoing development strategy, which has included the recent acquisition of airport concessions in the Dominican Republic and Chile, with further acquisitions planned for Japan.
