The security checkpoint at Myrtle Beach International Airport is receiving an upgrade. The airport announced on its social media platforms on February 27 that the Transportation Security Administration has already begun installing new CT x-ray scanners.
The new scanners create a 3D image of the contents of carry-on bags and can automatically detect explosives and other dangerous items. The new units also eliminate the need for manual inspection of bags, and passengers can now leave laptops and other electronic devices in their carry-ons.
All six lanes at the Myrtle Beach checkpoint will be equipped with the new scanners.
