Fraport Brasil SA Aeroporto de Fortaleza, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport AG and operator of Fortaleza Airport (FOR), has assumed operations at Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in north-eastern Brazil, bringing Fraport AG’s total airport portfolio in the country to three.
The concession was awarded under the Brazilian government’s AmpliAR program, which allows regional airports to be folded into existing concessions. Jericoacoara Airport is now part of the existing Fortaleza Airport concession, which runs until 2047. It covers operation of the passenger terminal along with additional landside and airside infrastructure, including retail and parking facilities. Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza has committed to investing in the airport’s modernization over the next three years.
Andreea Pal, CEO of Fraport Brasil, said, “Jericoacoara Airport supplements our existing airport portfolio and opens up additional development opportunities within the Fortaleza concession. With our planned modernization measures, we are laying the foundation for sustainable growth, strengthening connectivity to one of Brazil’s most popular holiday destinations, and promoting economic and tourism development in the region.”
Jericoacoara sits within one of Brazil’s most visited national parks, known for its beaches, dunes and lagoons, and a popular destination for kite- and windsurfers due to the region’s trade winds. The area is often referred to as Jeri.
In 2025, JJD served approximately 260,000 passengers, a 23% year-on-year increase. The airport has a single runway measuring 2,200 x 45m and is served by Brazil’s three major airlines: LATAM, GOL and Azul.
Fraport AG has operated in Brazil since 2017, running the airports in Fortaleza and Porto Alegre under separate concessions.
