Manchester Airport has been awarded the highest possible rating for its special assistance services in the Civil Aviation Authority’s latest accessibility report.

The airport received a “very good” rating for the services it offers to passengers with restricted mobility and hidden disabilities, an improvement on its “good” rating for 2025.

ABM, which operates the airport’s special assistance services, was recognized for improvements made over the past 12 months, with the report citing strong performance on waiting times.

Changi Airport Group (CAG) and ground handling partner SATS have begun the first phase of autonomous wheelchair deployment at Changi Airport, following successful trials, to support passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs).

The autonomous wheelchairs, operated and managed by SATS, enable PRMs to move through the terminals more independently, reducing reliance on one-to-one staff assistance and freeing ground staff to focus on passengers requiring higher levels of care.

Changi Airport recorded a 20% increase in requests for wheelchair assistance between 2023 and 2025, according to CAG.

Munich Airport has become the first airport in Germany to achieve Level 1 of the Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) program, run by global airport association ACI World.

The AEA program is designed to help airports measure, evaluate and improve their accessibility management and culture. According to Munich Airport, it is the only international assessment and accreditation program specifically dedicated to airport accessibility for people with disabilities.

The program takes a holistic approach, assessing not only infrastructure but also strategy, management, processes, training and corporate culture.

London Luton Airport (LLA) is offering free bus travel throughout August 2026 to encourage holidaymakers across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire to leave their cars at home.

Under the Fly and Ride initiative, adult passengers can travel free on a range of Arriva and Stagecoach services by showing a valid printed or digital boarding pass for an LLA flight during August 2026. The scheme complements the Department for Transport‘s free summer bus travel offer for children aged five to 15 in England, meaning many families can reach the airport at no cost this month.

A fully interactive AI hologram designed for guest service and wayfinding has launched in LaGuardia Terminal B.

LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP), the manager and developer of Terminal B, said that although other airports have used holograms for entertainment or static welcome messages, its interactive Guest Experience Ambassador Hologram is the first of its kind in the industry.

Powered by Proto, a hologram hardware platform, and Holomedia’s AI Concierge Wayfinder application, Bridget offers a human-centered approach to digital assistance.

ABM has been awarded the passenger reduced mobility (PRM) services contract at Glasgow Airport and retained its existing agreement at Aberdeen International Airport.

Both contracts, secured with AGS Airports, are valued at multiple millions of pounds and will run for an initial three-year term, with the option to extend for a further two years.

From April, around 150 ABM staff will deliver assisted travel services across the two airports, supporting passengers with reduced mobility.

The New Terminal One at JFK International Airport has appointed Wilson James as its partner to deliver passenger assistance services.

Under the agreement, Wilson James will design and operate a program supporting passengers requiring assistance (PRA) at the new all-international terminal, which is scheduled to open later in 2026.

The company will manage assistance requests, operate designated spaces including lounges and a sensory room, and coordinate with airlines, ground handlers and other stakeholders to support passengers with physical, sensory, neurological or cognitive needs.

Munich Airport has opened a new inclusive security checkpoint in Terminal 2, designed to improve accessibility and comfort for passengers with special needs and families traveling with young children.

According to the airport, the facility is the first inclusive security checkpoint of its kind in Germany.

The new checkpoint is fully barrier-free and designed to support passengers with reduced mobility. Instead of using an automated boarding pass reader, travelers are greeted by staff who guide them through the process and adapt the pace of the screening procedure to individual needs.
