Airports Council International (ACI) has announced that four Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports have achieved Level 2 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata (above); Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar; Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi; and Trivandrum International Airport in Kerala have met all the necessary requirements to upgrade to Level 2.

In line with national as well as global climate change initiatives, AAI has initiated carbon management programs at these airports. They achieved ACA Level 1 in December 2018 and reached Level 2 by showing a reduction in carbon emissions when compared with a base year, in this case 2015, and developing a carbon management plan.
