Smiths Detection is to trial its smart security checkpoint for the first time in China, at Chengdu Shuangliu  International Airport.

Central to the trial is the HI-SCAN 6040p-2is dual view x-ray inspection unit for carry-on luggage and the iLane.evo automated tray-handling system. The HI-SCAN 6040p-2is is certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and generates high-quality x-ray scanned images of personal belongings and cabin baggage, while the iLane.evo automatically detects and re-routes suspicious items, removing bottlenecks in passenger flow.

Dennis Zeng, general manager, Smiths Detection China, said, “We anticipate post-trial feedback and know that we can leverage our global experience to help fortify Chengdu Airport’s security solutions to a greater degree than pre-trial.”

The live trial involving real passengers will continue until March 2020.
