Automation specialist Beumer has completed the installation of its tote-based CrisBag baggage handling system (BHS) at YYC Calgary International Airport in Canada, following six months of continuous testing. Beumer claims that the new system is the largest of its kind in Canada.

The state-of-the-art BHS has been installed in the airport’s newly constructed International Terminal and combines automated check-in kiosks and self-service bag-drops with the latest screening systems, which comply with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations.

With each bag allocated to a single tote throughout the baggage handling process, CrisBag also provides 100% traceability to enable compliance to IATA Resolution 753. The use of Beumer Group’s Software Suite for end-to-end control of the inbound and outbound baggage flows also delivers rapid transfer times.

A second CrisBag system will be installed in the existing Domestic Terminal and linked to the system in the new International Terminal by an inter-terminal baggage transfer connection. This will not only add system-wide traceability across the airport, but will also provide passengers with the flexibility to check-in at either terminal.
