Biometric identification specialist Vision-Box has been contracted by Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) to install an automated border control platform in the new terminal at Bahrain International Airport.

Located in the Middle Eastern city of Muharraq, Bahrain International serves as an important hub to the Gulf region. It is currently being transformed as part of BAC’s airport modernization program (AMP), which will enhance infrastructure, facilities and services, transforming the airport into a world-class transportation hub capable of handling 14 million passengers annually.

Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, CEO, BAC, said, “One of the AMP’s most important objectives is to enhance the overall airport experience. The new automated border control platform will play a key role in achieving this by giving passengers more control over their journeys and streamlining time-consuming immigration and security formalities.”

The new terminal will be equipped with advanced biometric technology to improve safety and security while offering passengers added convenience. Vision-Box’s Automated Border Control platform will streamline border control monitoring and inspection for departures and arrivals. In addition, 22 new eGates will enable travelers to pass through immigration checkpoints faster and with less staff involvement, while still maintaining a high level of security. The eGates will verify passengers’ identities, using biometrics including facial, iris and fingerprint recognition.

Miguel Leitmann, Vision-Box CEO, added, “Vision-Box technology naturally matches BAC’s goals. It’s a proven solution that will significantly augment the terminal processing capacity, streamline the passenger flow, improve security and enhance the appeal of using the airport. Bahrain International now joins the leading group of airports in the region that are using trusted biometric-based technology to support their growth plans.”

The Vision-Box solution will be inaugurated with the opening of the new terminal in the third quarter of 2019.
