Construction firm Al Jaber LEGT Engineering and Contracting (ALEC) has been selected by airport operator Dubai Airports to undertake the terminal expansion project at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The first phase of the project will expand the existing terminal from approximately 700,000ft² to more than 1,500,000ft², and will feature a new check-in hall with 64 check-in counters and a new immigration hall with 55 border control counters. ALEC will also add a further 12 boarding lounges and will expand the existing public hall, offices, commercial areas and baggage reclaim facilities.

According to local news site Emirates 24/7, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and chief executive of Emirates Group, said, “We are poised to significantly boost Dubai’s economy by creating a world-class facility capable of handling the growing number of passengers visiting and transiting our city.

“Al Maktoum International is being designed to become an airport of the future. We are building a range of amenities and facilities that will increase capacity and significantly enrich the airport experience, making it an attractive proposition for airlines as well as passengers.”
