Aruba Airport’s Gateway 2030 moves into next phase

Tara CraigBy Tara CraigJune 4, 20192 Mins Read

Five international construction companies are to bid for the Gateway 2030 expansion project component of Aruba Airport’s main building contract.

Aruba Airport Authority and its project partners have finalized the design and tender documents for the main terminal construction, and have completed the prequalification for the contract bids for the main terminal construction. The preparation works and relocation and upgrading of the airport’s main utilities are underway, and the next phase will complete the remaining planning process and move the project into a full-construction stage.

The prequalification process for the main building construction contract has been completed and five companies will be participating in the tendering process: Aecon Group, Ballast Nedam International Projects, Bam International, Bouygues Batiment International, and Tav Tepe Akfe Construction & Operation.

The contractor selected will be responsible for the construction of the terminal expansion, as well as the roadway and parking lot changes and upgrades. The tender documents and all technical drawings were delivered on May 31, site visits are planned for mid to late June, and final submittals are expected to be received in mid-September.

“We are excited about this next step in the Gateway 2030 project. The participation of these experienced international construction companies will provide the know-how and expertise needed to effectively execute our construction program, and also provide opportunities and partnerships with local subcontractors to work alongside these companies and deliver much-needed local employment opportunities,” said AAA CEO James Fazio.

“We are very pleased with the experience and expertise of the prequalified construction companies participating in the tender, we’re confident the process will conclude with a good result, and we look forward to the next step in building our highly anticipated infrastructure project at Aruba Airport.”

The 34,000m² (366,000ft²) terminal expansion, with an estimated 4-year construction time, will provide the capacity and service upgrades necessary for the growing volume of passengers using the airport.
